About ABH Rehab
Our Story
In the early 2010s, Alhambra and the broader San Gabriel Valley experienced a sharp rise in opioid-related emergency room visits — a 34% increase in just two years, according to Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reports. Local healthcare providers, community leaders, and public health officials recognized that the existing treatment infrastructure was not equipped to serve the region's diverse population.
ABH Rehab was established as a direct response to that crisis. A coalition of physicians, behavioral health specialists, and neighborhood advocates came together to create a facility that would not just treat addiction, but do so in a way that respected the cultural identities and languages of the people who call this community home. From the beginning, the vision was clear: build something that belongs to the neighborhood, not something imposed from outside it.
Today, ABH Rehab operates from our facility on South Garfield Avenue, where we have served over 2,800 patients. Our roots in public health mean we never lose sight of the bigger picture — every individual who recovers strengthens the entire community around them.
Our Mission & Philosophy
Mission Statement
ABH Rehab exists to advance the science of addiction recovery while making that science accessible to every person in our community who needs it. We pursue evidence-based innovation relentlessly — integrating emerging neuroscience research, validated therapeutic modalities, and measurable outcomes into every aspect of care.
Our commitment is to close the gap between what research proves effective and what patients actually receive. When a new treatment protocol demonstrates superior outcomes in clinical trials, we evaluate it, train our staff, and implement it. That dedication to continuous improvement means the care we deliver today is measurably better than what we offered last year, and next year's care will be better still.
Treatment Philosophy
Neuroscience-Based Care: Addiction is a disorder of brain circuitry, not a moral failure. Our clinical protocols are designed around current understanding of dopamine pathways, neuroplasticity, and stress-response systems. Every treatment plan incorporates neurobiological assessment alongside psychological evaluation.
Nature as Therapy: Exposure to natural environments has been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety, and improve mood regulation. Our campus includes walking trails, outdoor group spaces, and an animal-assisted therapy area — because healing happens faster when the body and mind are both at ease.
Cultural Humility: The San Gabriel Valley is home to people from dozens of cultural backgrounds. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model, we train every clinician in cultural humility — the practice of ongoing self-reflection, openness to patients' worldviews, and willingness to adapt therapeutic approaches to honor each person's identity and experience.
